The Great Outdoors – Gold Coast Style

Being a holiday destination, the Gold Coast is known for the variety of activities offered to take up your days.  It’s only when you live here that you realise that the true gems are all to do with nature, relaxing and the great outdoors.

In my list of favorites will not be Surfers Paradise, theme parks and bar hopping which are all great ways to pass the time, but do not show the real Gold Coast brilliance.

After extensive research, including travelling the globe, it is obvious that we have some of the best beaches in the world.  Water temperature, waves and that unmistakable golden smooth sand is the perfect combination of activity and relaxation.

Whether you are with a group of friends or playing with your family, thoughts are echoed constantly, what a perfect day!  To top it off, it’s free.  If you get peckish there are free BBQs dotted in the beachside parks or affordable surf clubs to satisfy.  What a lifestyle!

On the free, natural and amazing list is the hinterland.  With the convenience of being a short drive, the Gold Coast hinterland gives us the best of both worlds.  Great hiking, rock pool swimming and picnics as well as wine tasting, an incredible vodka distillery and a myriad of romantic getaways to satisfy whatever mood you’re in.  There’s nothing quite like the feeling of being on top of a mountain looking out over the Gold Coast knowing that the journey was as good as the reward.

Being from the southern end of the Gold Coast, we have only recently become familiar with a large and amazing area - the Broadwater.  Having always thought the ‘Northerners’ were a bit clueless about why you wouldn’t want immediate access to beaches like Burleigh was beyond me, I’ve now have to reassess my very pro-south beliefs.

If you don’t have a boat, usually you know someone who does and that’s all you need.  There is nothing more relaxing and rejuvenating than beaching yourself on one of the many islands, dropping a line in, grabbing a cold one and playing an epic game of beach cricket with mates.  The natural beauty is breathtaking, the flat water great for a dip (not to mention kid friendly) and the overall feeling of AAAHHHH can’t help but envelop you.

The Gold Coast can be as hectic or mellow as you make it.

The best thing without a doubt is that it’s a better place to live than to visit, you find your own secret spots within some of the most beautiful areas in the world all clustered together.  Pretty easy stuff!
